In Studio with Carolyn - February 2024

Hello again! I’M BACK!!

I apologize for my absence. I know you might have thought that I had disappeared, but I am here now. There has been a lot going on in my life, and finding time to write a blog has been a challenge. Besides, the only time I had to write was while sleeping and I didn't think you would be interested in the crazy, weird dreams inside my brain.

Here's a quick update on our family adventure! In early 2023, my better half underwent back surgery, which led to a challenging recovery journey. Adhering to restrictions like no bending, lifting, or twisting for 6-8 months proved to be a bit of a struggle for my ever-active hubby. His lively spirit made the journey quite an experience!

Last spring, we embarked on a feathery adventure as we welcomed a flock of chickens into our lives! The experience was a flurry of learning, laughter, and clucking companions. I had the joy of tending to them before passing the baton to my nieces.

When August rolled around, we packed up our nests and migrated... right next door! With a leisurely acre between homes, moving was a breeze. We've cozied into our new abode quite nicely, even if our walls are still awaiting their artful adornments. But hey, at least our windows are no longer bare - we finally put up curtains last month!

Now here we are at the beginning of 2024

I’ve finished up all client quilts (more about those in later upcoming posts) and I made a great friend who also happens to be one of the quilt fabric reps here in Alaska. She has been such an inspiration!

As a result of that friendship, I’ve begun designing patterns with Alaska fabrics in mind. I can’t quite express how much fun this has been. I’ve put together a couple of designs and one is nearly ready for printing and selling.

Of course, I get to do all the fun stuff in between. It’s a learning process!

Right now, I’m putting together test blocks to be sure they are the best they can be. At the same time, I’m putting all my notes down for the writing part. The writing has to be the most terrifying. So I’m taking my time to get it right!

Then, I’m making these quilts for shop samples for a couple of the shops here in Alaska that want to kit these patterns.

Please, check out the photos below! I think they’re just lovely!

Last but not ever the least

Now that you have had a minute to just enjoy looking, please know that I have blog posts in the back of my head for the making of this quilt.

I have no experience in doing a sew-along or a quilt-along, so for now, I hope to be able to put down some detailed tips and tricks I want you all to know as you work your way through this quilt.

This quilt pattern is set up in my shop as a pre-order item. I hope you’ve seen enough to love it as much as I do. As soon as I get all the writing finished and order some printed copies, those who have purchased as a pre-order will receive a printed and digital copy when they come in.

I have plans to get some of these fabric and make up kits if there is an interest. So when you make your purchase, please answer the questions that come with checking out.

Thank you so much for being patient with me while we settled all the rough life stuff during the past year. And thank you for choosing to stay on here. I’m looking forward to an exciting new chapter in my life and I’m even more excited to share it with you!

Please don’t hesitate if you have any information that will help me during this journey I’m on. I’m open to all the good things this can bring our way!

I appreciate you,

Carolyn
