In Studio - December 2022

Upstairs View

Here we are in December and I did exactly what I told myself not to do it. I overbooked!

I have been scrambling to finish up the projects that came with me from Hawaii. Still not finished with those.

But when those previous clients need their quilts quilted up, I just can’t say no! That’s okay! I love my clients! I think I get the best people in the world!

How do you like the view from my longarm? The picture above is what I get to look at while I’m quilting. We’ve had so much snow and so little above 32-degree weather that the trees are all sagging with the weight of the snow.

What’s finished

Remember this? All those bits and pieces came together and this beauty got finished and sent on its way home!

The quilting moved along great! I was worried I would have some problems. It happens when there is one color on the bottom and several on the top.

All I can say is… a lot of testing with every thread change.

The next finish

The next item on my list to finish was this gorgeous Cabin Windows quilt sent to me by one of my clients in Hawaii.

I do love feather quilting and I’m so happy that this client chose to go with the all-over custom feathers for this quilt. They are fun and easy!

I looked high and low for the pattern online for this quilt. If someone finds it, please let me know! I would love to give the author credit here. All I know is it’s named Cabin Windows and the author is Cindy Thomas of Colorado Creations. I whipped it up in Electric Quilt and it’s easy to do, but I don’t want to take away from Cindy’s hard work.

The last bit

The last bit that just went out this morning to another client in Hawaii is the beautiful Nine Sisters quilt. The pattern is by Cozy Quilt Designs by Daniela Stout. This is A Strip Club Pattern and it can be found just about anywhere you like to buy quilt patterns.

The first picture my client sent of the quilt was a screen shot from somewhere and it didn’t have borders. I started there and went wild coming up with quilting design ideas.

As you can see I was excited! I had so much fun working through ideas. Problem was, I couldn’t make up my own mind after a while. I usually pick 2 or 3 mockups and that’s what I send on to the client. This time I sent them all. She was such a sport! She and her sister picked the one they liked the most and I waited for the quilt to arrive.

When I got the quilt, IT HAD BORDERS! I was even more excited! This is like blank space (often called negative space) for a quilter.

There I went again…lots and lots of designs in mind. Here is a bit of the process.

This is the one they settled on. Again, this client and her sister have such great taste!

I was so tickled! I couldn’t wait to get started.

The applique quilt at the beginning of this post was still on my longarm, so she had to wait just a bit.

And then I got the flu. Good grief! I wanted to be sure to get this quilt back to her before the holiday hit!

After a couple of days, I got her loaded up on my longarm and got to work.

I got her bound late last night and she was done!

She went out in the mail this morning next day air! I’m so proud of this beauty. I hope she and her sister like it as much as I enjoyed quilting it!

I hope you enjoyed this little travel into my past few weeks. It’s been a whirlwind and even though we don’t celebrate Christmas ourselves, I do enjoy helping those who have gifts to give get them done.

I have a quilt that will be starting up this weekend. It’s a lovely Alaska Iditarod panel quilt. My client has helped with the Iditarod and happened to find me on Etsy. She had no idea I was from Alaska when we started on her design. She asked me to draw up a design for the panels that she had purchased while in Alaska.

Her quilt was supposed to be to her by February of this year, but because of our move, she was willing to wait. Now, it’s time to get started. I can’t wait to show it off to you!

Don’t forget to take a look at the new recipe I uploaded. I know you’ve seen the Cottage Cheese Salad, but the Spinach Continental is a super side dish and a great something different to do with spinach.

Please don't forget to share!

Nearly all my quilts have a story in them. I plan to share as many as I remember with you. The ups the downs the..."whoops! What was I thinking"...moments. As I move along I hope to inspire and encourage your journey in quilts.

I love to hear stories.

Please send me your stories about your quilts or whatever your making. Where the idea started and how it moved from there. And if you want me to, I'll show them off for you. Most of all, let's have fun!

Don’t forget to sign up below!

What would you like to know more about how I do what I do, please mention it in the comments below. Or skim a bit through my Instagram feed, if you see something you want to know more about, mention that too!
